Power new Fortescue COO

Fortescue Metals Group has started 2011 by appointing ex-Thiess executive Neville Power to the post of chief operating officer. Mr Power was chief executive of Australian operations at Thiess, a major mining and construction contractor and subsidiary of Leighton Holdings. He has also previously worked with Smorgon Steel and mining company MIM Holdings. Mr Power resigned from Thiess in December, and will commence at FMG in mid-late February.

Franklyn a Nomad director

Nomad building solutions has appointed David Franklyn as a non-executive director. Mr Franklyn is currently managing director of Entrust Funds Management, a Western Australian-based boutique funds management business with a 24.8 per cent relevant interest in Nomad-issued shares. He is also executive chairman of Calzada. His previous roles include head of research for a national stockbroker and general manager corporate communications for an ASX-listed company. .

McBain new CEO at Brierty

Civil and mining contractor Brierty has appointed Peter McBain as chief executive officer, effective March 7. Mr McBain was most recently general manager – project development at Gindalbie Metals’ Karara Mining, where he managed the design and construction of the company’s $2 billion Karara Project. He also previously held roles at NRW and HWE Mining where he oversaw projects for clients including BHP Billiton, Fortescue Metals Group, Rio Tinto, Portman and Main Roads Western Australia.

Smith to retire from Clough

Engineering and construction company Clough is looking for a new chief executive after John Smith announced plans to step down. Clough said Mr Smith, who has been the company's chief executive officer since August 2007, would retire around August 2011, which is close to the fourth anniversary of his tenure. The company told the stock exchange the search for a new chief was expected to take several months.
