Muirhead to lead Pilbara study

The state government has appointed a steering committee to evaluate the development of common-user maritime infrastructure in the Pilbara, likely to be at either Anketell Point or Lumsden Point. The steering committee will be chaired by Richard Muirhead, whose previous roles were state director of the CHOGM conference and chief executive of Tourism WA. A decade ago, Mr Muirhead was involved in the development of the common-use facility at the Australian Marine Complex at Henderson, which the government says will be a model for the Pilbara facility. 

Benson joins WHL

East African oil and gas explorer WHL Energy has appointed Trevor Benson as chairman, following the resignation of John Chandler, who has taken up the roles of professor of law at the University of Western Australia and director of the Centre for Mining, Energy and Natural Resources Law. Mr Benson joined the WHL board as a non-executive director late last year. He is currently a director, corporate advisory at PCF Capital Group. WHL has also appointed Aligned Energy executive chairman Keiran Wulff as a non-executive director. Dr Wulff was previously chief operating officer of Oil Search, and was responsible for its new business in the Middle East and North Africa.

Durack replaces Mehan at Jupiter

Greg Durack has been appointed as chief executive officer of Jupiter Mines, following the resignation of managing director Richard Mehan. Mr Durack is Jupiter’s chief operations officer and will take up the CEO position immediately. Mr Mehan, who was formerly Cliff Resources’ Asia Pacific president and chief executive, will remain with Jupiter for a period to allow for a smooth transition. The company’s core assets are the Tshipi Kalahari manganese exploration project in South Africa and the Central Yilgarn iron project in WA.
