Norwest Crane Hire has received the first Liebherr 650T crane in Western Australia ahead of a series of works scheduled with major mining companies in the Pilbara.

Its arrival was commemorated at an industry launch event at Burswood on Swan this afternoon.

Belmont-based Norwest Crane Hire ordered the machine from German construction machine manufacturer Liebherr nearly a year and a half ago.

That was followed by a two-month water journey before arriving in Fremantle and three weeks of training on the new crane for staff ahead of the official handover this afternoon.

The LTM1650—8.1, 650T All Terrain Crane has a lifting capacity of 700 tonnes, which Norwest says exceeds the capacity of its predecessor by 15 to 50 percent.

Broadly, its enhanced capabilities are hoped to broaden the Norwest Cranes fleet’s service offerings.

It is the first Liebherr 650T crane in Western Australia, according to Norwest, and will be sent to start work in the Pilbara in the coming weeks following today’s ceremony.

Norwest Crane Hire purchased its first crane from German construction machine manufacturer Liebherr back in 2008.
