Norwest Minerals director and inaugural chairman Michael Tilley died yesterday after an illness.

The West Perth-based company this morning announced to the market Mr Tilley’s death, a day before his 74th birthday.

Mr Tilley was Norwest Minerals’ inaugural chairman and took the company through its IPO and ASX-listing in 2018, the announcement said.

“He made a significant contribution to the company,” the statement said.

“NWM offers its sincere condolences to his wife Marie and children.”

Mr Tilley was also the chairman and founding director of Melbourne-based corporate advisory firm Terrain Capital.

He had more than 40 years of experience in the accounting and finance industries and served on multiple exploration and mining companies’ boards.

Mr Tilley had been a director at Yarra Valley Water Limited, a director of North Queensland Metals, and a non-executive director of Kogi Iron Limited.

NWM chief executive Charles Schaus will be acting chairman until a permanent appointment has been made.

Company secretary Oliver Carton has been appointed as a director temporarily amid a search for Mr Tilley’s replacement on the board.

Mr Carton has been company secretary since NWM listed on the ASX.

“He was previously a director of KPMG and prior to that a senior legal officer with ASIC,” NWM’s statement said.

“Oliver will step down once a new director has been chosen.”
