Nomad wins $46m Gorgon contract

Nomad Building Solutions is the latest recipient of a Gorgon gas project contract, with work awarded as part of an overall $500 million contract to build the accommodation village.

The company said it had received a letter of intent from the Thiess, Decmil Group and Kentz joint venture, which last month secured the contract to design and construct a village to accommodate for around 3,300 workers.

Nomad's Gorgon contract is valued at $46 million.

Under the contract Nomad subsidiary, Nomad Modular, will build three kitchens/dining rooms, a communications building, administration complex, two wet messes and 14 other associated administrative and recreational facilities.

Nomad said work will start this month at its Bibra Lake manufacturing facility, and is expected to be completed by March 2011. Installation will be the JV's responsibility.

Nomad added that around 80 per cent of the contract's revenue will be received this financial year.

Earlier this month, Thiess was awarded its second Gorgon contract, valued at $500 million, for site preparation works and construction of temporary facilities on Barrow Island.

So far, the Chevron, which is the majority stake holder and operator of the $50 billion Gorgon project, has awarded around $1.8 billion worth of contracts.

The Gorgon partners, including Shell and ExxonMobil, have yet to make a final investment decision on the project, which is anticipated by the end of August.

Nomad Building Solutions Limited's (NBS) wholly owned subsidiary, Nomad Modular Building Pty Ltd ( Nomad Modular) has received a letter of intent to award a contract from the Thiess Decmil Kentz Joint Venture for the manufacture and supply of the central facilities buildings for the Chevron Gorgon liquefied natural gas project accommodation village.

Under the contract Nomad Modular will build 3 kitchens/dining rooms (to cater for up to 3,300 people), a communications building, administration complex, 2 wet messes and 14 other associated administrative and recreational facilities.

Work will begin in July 2009 at the company's Bibra Lake manufacturing facility in the southern Perth suburbs, and is expected to be completed by March 2011. Approximately 80% of the revenue from the contract will be received in this financial year. Installation will be the responsibility of the Joint Venture.

NBS' Managing Director, Alan Thomas, said the letter of intent recognised the capacity of Nomad Modular to deliver a first class product adding that its new management team has achieved a very credible outcome in gaining this award.
