Construction for a $27 million primary school at Newman College is on track as part of a goal to house the entire student body in one site by 2025.

Newman College is based on Empire Avenue in Churchlands but students in pre-kindergarten to Year 2 are based at the Marian Campus on Peebles Road, in Floreat.

The proposed primary school is planned to be developed in stages over the next two years, with the first phase due for completion in the first quarter of 2024 and the second stage to be completed ahead of the 2025 new year.

The first stage of construction will comprise the Year 3 to Year 6 building, an administration centre, playing courts and outdoor learning spaces.

A pre-kindergarten facility, early childhood facility for kindy to Year 2 students, and specialty areas including a library, arts and STEM, would be construction in the next stage.

Newman College principal Andrew Watson said this was a historic moment for the school in combining the entire student body, from pre-kindergarten to Year 12, on one site.

“Many years of consultation with students, families, staff, and architects resulted in a magnificent plan which brings to life our vision for learning at the college,” he said.

The school has contracted BADGE Constructions to build the project, the second collaboration after Newman College’s $9 million learning hub.

BADGE Constructions is extremely pleased to have the opportunity to work collaboratively again with Newman College, Munns Sly Moore and the wider consultancy team,” BADGE WA manager Rocky Slater said.

“This staged project will be delivered within the heart of the school grounds, and we look forward to bringing this innovative design to life for the enrichment of the school community.”

A recent sod turning ceremony was attended by representatives from BADGE Constructions and architects Munns Sly Moore, and City of Stirling mayor Mark Irwin.

Newman College had been an integral part of the local community since 1965 and it was exciting to see the latest generation of parents, students and teachers building the next chapter of the school’s history,” Mr Irwin said.
