New commissioner for consumer protection

Anne Driscoll has been appointed as Western Australia's new Commissioner for consumer protection.

Consumer Protection Minister Sheila McHale said Ms Driscoll was an excellent choice for the role.

"Ms Driscoll brings extensive public service experience, both in consumer protection and in broader government services, to the role," Ms McHale said.

"She has a strong background in service and program delivery in both Federal and State Government environments."

Ms Driscoll has been Director Business Services at Consumer Protection - now a division of the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection - for more than nine years. Her responsibilities included licensing, registration, education and compliance functions within the agency.

Ms Driscoll led compliance and investigations programs into 17 separate pieces of legislation, including the Fair Trading Act and the Consumer Affairs Act.

Her achievements include high-profile responses to misleading claims by spruikers of property investments at a time of high public interest in property; and implementing compliance programs and an industry code of practice for the credit industry that has led Australia.

Ms Driscoll previously worked for Commonwealth agencies including the then Department of Employment, Education and Training and the Department of Social Security.
