Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls has welcomed the appointment of a new chief executive officer to the Pilbara Development Commission.

Dr Ken King holds tertiary qualifications in mechanical engineering and teaching; and is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) as well as a Senior Associate (Resource Sustainability) for the Eidos Institute (an Australian research institute with a focus on public policy.)

Mr Grylls said Dr King had worked in the public and private sector in a number of regional areas in Australia and overseas, in areas of business, industry, training education and regional economic development.

“Dr King’s appointment completes the reorganisation of the Pilbara Development Commission with the recent appointment of a new board under chairman Mike Hollett and the amalgamation of the Pilbara Cities Office into the commission,” he said.

“With the commitment made by the Liberal National Government to the Pilbara Cities program and the development of the region, I am certain the commission will continue its focus on infrastructure, land, community projects and economic development.

“The Pilbara Development Commission has been strengthened and, I believe Dr King and his team will continue to plan and deliver a new sense of optimism in the Pilbara as a place to live, visit, work and invest.”
