New Goose will be worth a gander

BUSSELTON icon The Goose Café and Restaurant will be resurrected by October following completion of a $1 million development.

The new Goose Café and Restaurant will offer customers more room and function options, not to mention one of the best views of the Busselton Jetty.

Owner Rhys Passmore sold the award-winning establishment’s restaurant facilities last year.

He kept the restaurant’s name and phone numbers, even the sign and a stained glass window.

“It’s a part of us [my family] and it’s our identity and we have a good following,” Mr Passmore said. 

“It was part of my five-year plan to sell.

“Two years ago a tender came up for the beach front and we went for it.”

Work on the new $1 million 600 to 700 square metre restaurant and function centre, to be built on the Busselton foreshore, will start next month.

“It’s a multi-function facility. It will have a kiosk, a wine bar and a restaurant,” Mr Passmore said.

Importantly, it offers Mr Passmore the space needed to target the wedding venue market.

“That’s the drawcard for us. We do catering for weddings and we did do some at The Goose, but we needed more room,” he said.

“We really needed to be at 120 or 130 [covers]. We also didn’t have tap beer but we will have that now so we can do wedding packages.

“We’re hoping we can do some ceremonies on the beach too.”

Mr Passmore said the new restaurant was designed to provide flexible floor area options.

“In the middle of winter you might have two to 12 people in, so we can shut down a part of it so you can create a good feeling.”

The site of the old Goose Restaurant is now Blend Restaurant.
