A million-dollar refurbishment of the information centre and small gift shop in Kings Park will see the establishment of a new cafe to cater for local, interstate and overseas visitors.

Announcing State Government approval for the development today, Environment minister Mark McGowan said the new cafe would be funded and operated by the current lessees of the internationally renowned Frasers Restaurant.

Mr McGowan said the new cafe, which would be open by September, would offer breakfasts, morning and afternoon teas, lunches and light dinners in a beautiful environment overlooking the iconic Swan River.

"Kings Park is one of Western Australia's tourism icons and it is important that visitors have the opportunity to enjoy its beauty in a relaxed and comfortable setting," he said.

"Visitors have been requesting a facility that is mid-way between the current kiosk and the fine dining experience of Frasers, and this cafe will be an excellent addition to the range of services offered within Kings Park."
