NAMAKWA Diamonds has commenced production on South Africa’s west coast with ramp-up to the stage one targeted level of 95,000 carats a year underway.
The $1.5 million production plant and facilities upgrade was completed recently with the Dense Media Separation diamond production plant upgraded to 500,000 tonnes per annum capacity together with enhancements to the onsite Flowsort (X-ray) Final Diamond Recovery Unit.
The stage one operations are expected to generate $7 million a year, pre-tax, with an initial mine life of about five years.
The Namakwa Diamond Mine is located about 350 kilometres north of Cape Town in one of the world’s most prolific diamond-producing areas.
