Onslow-based NTC Contracting has been awarded a civil and earthworks contract for up to five years at the Chevron-operated Wheatstone LNG plant.

The scope of the contract is still being defined, but it is likely to create between 10 and 20 jobs, with all positions to be based in the town of Onslow.

NTC will provide civil maintenance works to the Wheatstone plant for an initial period of three years with an opportunity for two one-year extensions.

Managing director Jason Varcoe said the contract award followed NTC’s successful delivery of more than $200 million in contracts over the past six years.

A substantial portion of this work was undertaken at Wheatstone during the project’s construction phase.

“With our head office in Onslow, this new contract represents success for both NTC and the town of Onslow,” Mr Varcoe said.

“We look forward to further solidifying our growth trajectory in Onslow and the broader Pilbara region.”

NTC was established in 1950 as Northern Trucking Co and diversified into contracting in 2001.

As well as Wheatstone, its clients in the Onslow area include the recently built Onslow Marine Support Base, Onslow Salt and BHP Billiton’s Macedon gas project.

Across the Pilbara region, it has worked on Rio Tinto’s Mesa A expansion and Citic Pacific’s Sino Iron development.

The company’s workforce peaked at close to 100 and is currently around 40 people.
