Tourism Council WA is looking for a new boss, after chief executive Graham Moss announced his resignation today.

Mr Moss said he enjoyed the role immensely in his three year term, but said he found it difficult to come to grips with the many issues faced by the tourism industry.

"I'm an engineer by profession and spent 18 years in the venue management industry and I was finding it difficult to muster the same passion that the thousands of tourism operators in WA have about their businesses," Mr Moss said in a statement released today.

"The Board of TCWA is made up of passionate industry people with a wide cross section of tourism experience and, now that the business operations of the Council are working effectively, it needs a CEO with experience in the tourism industry to carry it forward."

Mr Moss said he would remain in the job until a replacement has been appointed.

"I am looking forward to finishing my role at TCWA on a high with the staging of the
Qantas Australian Tourism Awards at the Burswood Entertainment Complex on March 11," he said.

"This event will enable WA tourism operators to showcase Perth and Western Australia to over 600 visiting interstate tourism industry representatives.

"I will then be looking at opportunities to further my career putting my diverse professional experience into practice in areas such as project management."

TCWA president Paul King said Mr Moss would leave TCWA in better shape than when he joined it.

"Graham is to be acknowledged for his steady guiding hand at the helm and getting the council back on a good course," Mr King said.

"Change is good for any business, and with a new CEO at TWA expected soon, and a new tourism minister in the Deputy Premier Kim Hames, which we feel is an excellent appointment, we expect some exciting challenges, opportunities and outcomes for tourism in WA this year.

The TCWA board has commenced the recruitment process and hopes to appoint a suitable candidate in April.
