More pain in new car sales

New car sales in Western Australia slipped 3.8 per cent last month, dragging its performance for the year even further away from parity.

About 8,700 new cars were sold in WA last month, bringing total sales for the year to March to about 23,200, down 9.2 per cent on the previous corresponding period, according to the latest date from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.

Toyota bucked the trend, however, improving sales for March by 8.9 per cent with just over 1,900 new cars sold and bringing its year-to-date performance close to par with the previous corresponding period.

Mitsubishi sold the second highest number of new cars in WA last month, up 27.2 per cent with 880 sales, while a 23.2 per cent slide in sales for March put Hyundai in third place with 796 sales.

Ford once again outshined Holden with a 3.8 per cent increase in sales with 656 new units sold, while the latter experienced a 31.7 per cent drop with 481 new cars sold.

Aston Martin has already doubled its result for the year to date, with one new car sale last month bringing its 2017 total to six sales, while Porsche broke even for the month with 19 sales, down 11.8 per cent in the year to date.

Ferrari sold two new cars in March, doubling its result in March 2016 but still 25 per cent down for the year, while Lamborghini’s sale of one new car last month put its year-to-date result on par with last year.

Jaguar maintained its continuing growth with 21 new cars sold last month, up 61.5 per cent on March 2016 and up by 92 per cent in the year to date.
