MOMENTUM is building around the Art Gallery of WA’s upcoming exhibition showing works from artists including Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol.

A total of 100 works have been brought over from New York’s Museum of Modern Art, a world-class museum with which Art Gallery of WA director Stefano Carboni negotiated a six-series exhibition partnership.

“To see the first piece of art arrive from MoMA was a special moment for the curatorial team,” Mr Carboni said.

“Years of planning became reality as we unpacked the first shipment to reveal the artworks. It gave us a small taste of the incredible pieces AGWA will have the honour of displaying at ‘Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters’ and I’m sure visitors to the exhibition will be delighted with the experience.

“This exhibition provides an opportunity for Australians to experience the rich history of the world we live in through the eyes of 14 modern masters.”

The exhibition opens on June 16 and will run for six months, before the next exhibition in the series opens in January. That will showcase photographs from MOMA, the subject of which will be the iconic streets and scenes of New York.
