The state government has sold two strata units in Midland Railway Workshop to Midland Health & Knowledge Precinct for $12.8 million, paving the way for a redevelopment of the site.

Midland Health and Knowledge Precinct, directed by prominent general practitioner Amitha Preetham, bought lots 2 and 3 at 6 Centennial Place in Midland for $6.38 million each from DevelopmentWA.

The entity, along with Dr Preetham’s Health Integra, is planning to develop the units into a community centre and medical training hub.

The units are the last two remaining in block 1 of the heritage-listed former railway workshop, which is earmarked for a significant redevelopment as part of Metronet.

Plans for a hotel, health, education and medical research facilities have been approved for the workshop district.

Health Integra currently operates a GP Superclinic, day hospital and specialist centre near the newly purchased lots.

Lands Minister John Carey said hundreds of jobs would be created throughout the construction of the new health precinct, with an expected 350 permanent jobs to be created.

“The McGowan Government is working in partnership with the private sector to invest more than $1.5 billion into the urban renewal of Midland,” he said.

“Its transformation into an important metropolitan centre is racing ahead with these two exciting projects, which will help attract businesses and residents to Perth’s eastern corridor.”
