Metronode $20m upgrade to Perth facility

Australian data centre provider Metronode has announced a $20 million expansion to triple the size of its Shenton Park facility.

The company says the expansion plans have been brought forward by about 12 months due to increased demand for its services.

The data centre opened in December of 2013 at a cost of $30 million.

Metronode, which has nine facilities in six cities across Australia, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nextgen Group

Formerly Leighton Telecommunications, Nextgen Group is 30 per cent owned by CIMIC Group and 70 per cent owned by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan

The new $20 million dollar investment brings Nextgen’s total financial infrastructure investment in the state to $200 million.

Nextgen recently began work on a $150 million undersea cable in the north-west of the state, which will service the high-speed data requirements of remote resources operations from Port Hedland to Darwin.
