Metro Homes into administration

Monday, 13 February, 2023 - 17:36

Another Perth builder has gone under, with administrators appointed to Metro Homes WA Pty Ltd, which also trades as Hamlen Homes.

Cliff Rocke and Greg Prout from WA Insolvency Solutions (Jirsch Sutherland) were appointed as administrators on Monday evening.

It follows reports earlier today that the builder was in trouble, with between five and 10 home construction jobs under way.

Australian Securities and Investment Commission documents show Adelaide businessman Peter Hoang Nguyen and Perth-based Stephen Daniel Pelosi (Stephen Pelosi) are directors of Metro.

The company's website has also been taken down, but older versions are accessible through the Wayback Machine web archive.

Hamlen Homes began as the Western Australian branch of Metro Property Development, according to the archival web page, but the company grew into an independent business.

It is understood that other business units in Hamlen Group are unaffected at this stage.

That is understood to include East and Co in East Victoria Park, a Hamlen-linked redevelopment at the National Archives Building on Berwick Street, built by the Commonwealth Government in 1974.

In December, a phase of that development was knocked back by the Metro Inner-South Joint Development Assessment Panel.

Business News has reported on a series of insolvencies which have shaken the construction industry, hitting builders of all sizes.

The most recent two were WA Housing Group and Individual Developments, both owing north of $1 million.

Individual had held three contracts with the state government to build apartments.

That followed the collapses of Pindan, Jaxon, WBHO Infrastructure, Firm Construction and New Sensation over the past 21 months.
