PROFITABILITY and indemnity issues have forced a reduction in private medical services in Perth’s suburban suburbs, general practitioners are claiming.
By July this year, the Rockingham area will have lost half of its GP obstetricians, due to insurer United Medical Protection going into liquidation, and uncertainty over new indemnity arrangements to be introduced on July 1.
The uncertainty centres on premiums, in particular for ‘tail cover’, which insures a medical practitioner for future litigation that could result from past practice.
Heritage awards
THE restoration of the Methodist Ladies College Centenary Building Cupola is one of the nominees for this year’s Heritage Council Conservation Award category of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects Architectural Awards. The project, coordinated by Cox Howlett and Bailey Woodland in association with Hocking Planning and Architecture, is among seven other nominees for the award.
Other nominees for the award include a restored Peppermint Grove residence, the Perth Town Hall and the Perth Oval Gates.
The award recognises best practice in heritage conservations.
