Former premier Mark McGowan has added to his portfolio of post-politics business jobs, accepting advisory roles with former Australian treasurer Joe Hockey and ‘rich lister’ Megan Wynne.

Mr McGowan will be a senior adviser with Mr Hockey’s firm Bondi Partners, which was founded in Washington DC in 2020.

Business News has confirmed Mr McGowan has also joined the advisory board at ASX company APM Human Services International, which counts former Western Australian treasurer Ben Wyatt as a non-executive director.

The new roles add to two other positions the former Labor premier has started since retiring from politics in June.

He consults to BHP, with the mining giant saying he provides advice and insights based on his years of experience in public life across multiple portfolios, and his deep understanding of the priorities for WA.

Mr McGowan has also been engaged as a part-time strategic adviser by Mineral Resources, led by managing director Chris Ellison.

The diversified miner and contractor says it is “delighted Mark will bring his diverse experience and knowledge to MinRes”.

Its executive team also includes former WA Labor state secretary Tim Picton, who is now employed as the company’s director corporate strategy and growth.

Mr McGowan’s new role at Bondi Partners was revealed this morning by the Australian Financial Review.

In an internal note to employees obtained by the newspaper, Mr Hockey said the former premier would join his team as a senior adviser based in Perth and “making the occasional visit to the east coast and beyond”.

“Of course you would all know Mark as the recent former premier of WA,” Mr Hockey said in the note.

“Mark recently retired with massive public support (the best way to go) after serving six very successful years as premier.”

Mr Hockey established Bondi Partners after serving as Australia’s ambassador to the US.

The firm has a team of about 30 people across the US and Australia.

It describes itself as an advisory and investment firm sitting at the intersection of policy, politics and the private sector.

At APM, Mr McGowan will be one of four people on its advisory board.

The others are former EY partners Greg Meyerowitz and Uschi Schreiber and Sydney director Damian Banks.

The company’s main board is led by its founder and executive chair Megan Wynne and includes chief executive Mike Anghie, Nev Power and Mr Wyatt.
