Margaret River-based wine producers Evans & Tate, Domaine Naturaliste and House of Cards have been recognised for their achievements at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2023.

Evans & Tate Wine won for its 2018 Redbrook Reserve cabernet sauvignon, Domaine Naturaliste was recognised for its 2020 Rebus cabernet sauvignon and House of Cards Wine for its 2022 Ace of Spades chardonnay.

The three Western Australian wines were selected from 18,250 wines from 57 countries.

In addition to the three best in show medals, the Margaret River wine region went on to win a further 101 medals: three platinum, 15 gold, 49 silver and 34 bronze.

The awards were judged by 236 wine experts from 30 countries.

Margaret River Wine Association chief executive Amanda Whiteland said the results of the Decanter World Wine Awards was a credit to the quality of Margaret River wines on a global scale.

“The exposure to Margaret River wines that these awards provide these international judges, consumers and trade is significant,” she said.

“I am sure the huge number of Margaret River wineries, over 30 wineries, that received one of the competition’s top awards will be celebrating with a glass of something delicious tonight.”

Decanter content manager and regional editor for Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Canada, Tina Gellie, spent one week touring the Margaret River region in November 2022.

Ms Gellie said she was thrilled but not surprised by the region’s wins at the international awards.

“The region's unique terroir fingerprint and passion of the producers shines through in the wines, which was not only evident during my visit but clearly also to our expert judges at the DWWA,” she said.

Other Australian wine regions beyond WA were recognised for their wines at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2023 with Australia winning a total 10 medals for the highest award, best in show.

Although wines from the Margaret River region only make up 2 per cent of the country’s total wine production, it represented 30 per cent of Australia’s best in show winners.

Best in show is the highest accolade for the Decanter awards followed by platinum, gold, Silver, bronze and commended.
