Engineering company Macmahon has been awarded two new civil contracts with a combined value of $55 million. Rio Tinto Iron Ore has contracted Macmahon to construct 100 kilometres of railway formation including culverts and seven multi span bridges in the Pilbara.

The contract is part of Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s plan to increase its Pilbara rail capacity to 145 million tonnes per annum.

The Water Corporation has contracted Macmahon for remediation works on the Churchman Brook Dam, 30km south-east of Perth. The contract involves removal and reconstruction of the downstream dam wall, including new filter layers, concrete work, pipework and earthworks.

"These new contracts combined with our existing work result in the Macmahon Group already having secured $470 million of revenue for the 2005 year," said chief executive Nick Bowen.
