MJA Studio, Match among award winners

Several Western Australian-based property companies were awarded for their developments over the weekend, as part of the inaugural Apartment Awards for Excellence.

Run by non-profit organisation Australian Apartment Advocacy (AAA), the debut WINconnect Apartment Awards for Excellence attracted more than 40 entries across 11 categories.

The awards were established to honor the apartment living sector and AAA director Samantha Reece said winners were recognised for design, use of space and choice of materials.

“Apartment living is a lifestyle choice and the entries demonstrate that WA leads the nation in the apartment sector,” Ms Reece said.

“Panorama apartments is 20 years old and received the Enduring Award because despite its age, it has maintained an impeccable standard along with its property values.”

“The development demonstrates that if you build a quality apartment and it is maintained by its council of owners, it can sustain time, and this is essential in building buyer confidence.”

Architecture firm MJA Studio was the joint-winner of the Affordability category for its design of The Bottleyard, alongside developers Stirling Capital for its delivery of The Boulevard.

Stirling Capital’s Cirque development was also the winner of the Luxury category.  

Meanwhile, Match (part of MGroup) took out the top prize for Heritage and Community Culture, for its Fremantle warehouse apartment project, Heirloom.

Other winners included Hall & Prior, named winner of the Ageing in Place category for Karingal Green, designed by Hassell, and the timber-built DeHavilland Apartments by Bluerock Projects won first place in the Innovation/Technology category.

“While we talk about housing choice in the context of standalone homes versus apartments, what we witnessed demonstrated that there is ample choice within the apartment sector and this is a trend that AAA wants to reward and encourage,” Ms Reece said.

“Apartment living is a lifestyle choice and the entries demonstrate that WA leads the nation in the apartment sector.”
