RIO Tinto’s Greg Lilleyman has been appointed as president of the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA. Currently a vice-president with CME, Mr Lilleyman joined Rio Tinto in 1990, holding a number of roles, mostly in iron ore and new mine developments. He was appointed president of Rio Tinto’s Pilbara iron ore operations in January this year.

Current CME president Kim Horne confirmed at the peak resources sector representative body’s 110th annual general meeting last week that he would continue to serve as a vice-president.

At the AGM, Mr Lilleyman said the outcome of public policy issues currently being debated were of major significance to the industry.

CME chief executive Reg Howard-Smith said after spending much of the past year dealing with the uncertainty created by the mining tax, the industry was now confronted by a proposed carbon-pricing scheme.

“It’s vital that the final framework protects the competitiveness of trade-exposed industries – including the minerals and energy sector,” Mr Howard-Smith said.
