WA Newspapers Ltd’s $210 million printing press upgrade has caused its fair share of headaches for management, as teething problems surfaced and caused delivery delays. But perhaps a bigger headache for management was the rumoured appearance of media mogul and big WAN shareholder, Kerry Stokes, who wanted to have a look around the newspaper’s operations earlier this month. Apparently Mr Stokes, whose Seven Network recently increased its stake in WAN to 17.3 per cent, got a private tour of the new presses. It has sent tongues wagging that a takeover can’t be too far away.
