Lighter note: Mayoral candidates in debate

THE Note was at a gathering of Perth property types at the Hyatt Hotel last week to hear the Lord Mayoral candidates spruik their wares and outdo each other in the quest to be the more accessible lord mayor. Candidate Bill Bradbury promised that if he were elected, he would open the doors of Council House every Sunday for anyone with a gripe or idea to line up at his office for a chat. But current councillor Max Kay (pictured) went one better in the accessibility stakes, with his "Max On The Spot" initiative, in which he aimed to improve security and safety in the city by being the first person at the scene of a crime or security incidents, at any time of the day or night. One wonders if these prospective mayors will be able to keep up the pace if they succeed.
