WHEN Transperth announced it was offering frustrated commuters a free trip to work aboard Rottnest Express’ Star Flyte cruiser this week complete with a complimentary Gino’s coffee, Fremantle Mayor Peter Tagliaferri could not resist the opportunity of calling for full-time river taxis on the Swan. Enthused with the mayor’s idea was Fremantle Flak catcher and budding playwright, Chris Thomas, who promptly dubbed them "Taglia-Ferries" in a media release. The Note wonders if Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan will agree with the proposal.
