Lighter Note

Iron chef

Art is a very subjective thing, so who are we to suggest that even the most unlikely culinary masterpiece in the most unlikely setting is not worthy of the title?

That being the case, The Note was incredibly impressed on arriving at the remote and dusty campsite of Gindalbie Metals Karara iron ore project, 220km east of Geraldton last week.

After careening about the $2 billion project all morning, the highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the Karara chef’s crusty homage to Australia’s pioneering First Fleeters, which awaited the gaggle of starving reporters who descended on the mess for lunch.

Clearly this was an Antipodean master class in the art of the possible.

We can only guess at chef’s plans to celebrate the opening of the main Karara mess later this year. May we suggest a bangers and mash representation of premier and industry cheerleader Colin Barnett?

Prima Minister?

There’s nothing like a bloodless coup to provide a marketing opportunity.

The Note was full of admiration for Sydney-based Jen Dalitz who heads sphinxx, a social enterprise committed to advancing women as leaders, for deftly jumping on the Julia Gillard bandwagon.

“Today we celebrate a moment in time that will never come again: the appointment of Australia’s first female Prime Minister, to be sworn in by our first female Governor General,” said Ms Dalitz.

But the bit The Note liked best was the title Ms Dalitz uses – SheEO. We’re not sure if she coined that one but it is gold. Perhaps Julia Gillard could follow this example and give her title an ever so feminine touch?
