Labor still concerned about GST

WHILE no longer opposing the GST, Federal Opposition Leader Kim Beazley still has concerns.

Speaking at the Australian Finance Conference’s WA Division annual luncheon meeting, Mr Beazley said the tax was unfair and complicated.

He said the enormous compensation the government had committed to would remove any benefits gained from the Ralph taxation review.

Mr Beazley said the scrapping of accelerated depreciation would see the demise of local mining activity.

He said Labor was looking at incentives and plans to raise the intellectual capital and research and development expenditure in Aust-ralia and reform capital gains tax.
