King’s Park club members to meet

ROYAL King’s Park Tennis Club has moved a step closer to finalising a deal for the development of a Next Generation Clubs Australia fitness club on its premises.

An extraordinary meeting of members has been scheduled for next week, at which time the club hopes an agreement will be reached on plans for the development of a fitness club.

WA Business News understands the club will be valued at $17 million.

The proposed gymnasium would be built where the tennis club’s old club house stands, with the two-heritage listed stands to remain.

If the members agree to the Next Generation and King’s Park Tennis Club proposal, approval would then be sought from the Botanic Gardens and Park Authority, according to King’s Park Tennis Club president Bob Stevenson.

“We’re making good progress but we haven’t got it over the line yet,” he said.

Opening a fitness club has obvious benefits for the tennis club, which has been struggling with declining member numbers and increasing maintenance costs.

The development will not only include an upgrading of member facilities, but also will open the door to new members.
