Karratha land agreement with Aboriginals

The state government has reached an agreement with the Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation allowing it to make land available for development in Karratha.

To mark the agreement, Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls presented the corporation with a cheque for $1million as an advance payment of a $37million agreement.

As part of the agreement the Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation will receive land for development opportunities and proceeds from the sale of some of the developed lots.

"The agreement with Ngarluma means we can go ahead with many proposed developments proposed for the townsite and I congratulate everyone involved in bringing the agreement to fruition," said Mr Grylls.

"The agreement unlocks huge potential for all people in the Pilbara and Western Australia," he said.

The projects planned for Karratha include:
* Gap Ridge industrial estate, 259 hectares on the south side of Dampier Road (industrial)
* Nickol West extension, 24 hectares on the north side of Dampier Road (residential)
* Baynton West infill, three hectares on the south side of Dampier Road (residential)
* Tambrey mixed use site, four hectares on the north side of Dampier Road (commercial and residential)
* Gap Ridge North, 100 hectares on the north side of Dampier Road (potential mix of residential and non-residential uses)
* Mulataga East, 50 hectares on the south side of Mystery Road (residential).
