COMMONWEALTH Bank head of sales support WA, Fiona Kalaf, has accepted a position with St George Bank subsidiary Sealcorp.

Ms Kalaf, a WA Business News 40under40 winner, will assume her position as business improvement manager at Sealcorp next month.

“I wanted to stay in finance. It’s a highly competitive industry; it’s exciting, it’s dynamic, and it is challenging,” she said.

Ms Kalaf is the third key Commonwealth Bank staff member to leave the bank’s WA operations in the past three months to take up job opportunities created by St George Bank.

She said she was excited to be offered the opportunity to work for a large company with its headquarters in Perth.

“It manages in excess of 20 per cent of Australia’s advisory market and people do not realise its headquarters are in Perth. I think it’s a real unsung success story,” Ms Kalaf said.

Commonwealth Bank WA manager and WA Business News 40under40 winner, Andrew Thorburn, announced his resignation

in April after accepting the position of group executive personal banking at St George Bank in Sydney.

Mr Thorburn’s vacant position was amalgamated with South Australian regional manager Rob Chapman’s portfolio.

However, Mr Chapman recently accepted a position as the managing director of the Bank SA, also a subsidiary of St George Bank.

Commonwealth Bank Queensland area manger Wayne Condon will take up the regional manager WA/SA on August 1 and will be based in WA.

Ms Kalaf worked for the Commonwealth Bank for two years and was previously the marketing manager at Lamont’s.

“To have a company headquartered here and in finance is great,” she said.
