Joondalup relaunches major city centre project

The City of Joondalup has put out the call for developers to design and build a mixed-use tower in its town centre, comprising a hotel, apartments, and a minimum of 12,000 square metres of office space.

The proposed project is located on Boas Avenue and Davidson Avenue.

A previous expressions of interest campaign for the site was cancelled after negotiations with the successful proponent, UK-based developer Seven Capital, were unsuccessful.

Joondalup Mayor Troy Pickard said the council would lobby the state government to secure a department or agency as anchor tenant for the office component of the project.

“Currently the majority of people living in the northern suburbs travel outside of the City of Joondalup to work and attracting government sector agencies and new businesses to the region will help address this issue,” he said.

“The development would also provide the impetus for the Joondalup City Centre to grow and become a preferred location for investment in high order public and employment-generated infrastructure.

Mr Pickard said the development would strengthen the town centre and vastly increase employment opportunities.

“There has been a lot of recent media coverage regarding traffic congestion issues facing metropolitan Perth and the costs and impact on the environment, local communities and businesses,” he said.

“Creating new employment in strategic centres such as Joondalup is vital to offset this major challenge for Perth.”
