Global law firm Jones Day has recruited Michael Lundberg, who says he is looking forward to opportunities flowing from its local and global network.

Mr Lundberg has spent the past 2.5 years with another US firm, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, which has a small Perth office led by Paul Evans.

“I’ve moved over to connect with the energy & resources partner and the construction group,” he said.

“They are the two areas where I plug into the market.”

Mr Lundberg has 27 years’ professional experience, mostly with major national firm King & Wood Mallesons.

He said that he saw considerable upside from the move to Jones Day.

“If you want to do big litigation in this town, you need a team around you.

“Particularly in this market with so much energy and resources litigation going on.”

Jones Day has five partners in its Perth office, after Mr Lundberg commenced last week, and 15 legal staff.

Partner-in-charge Adam Salter said the firm has about 100 lawyers across its four Australian offices.

That’s in addition to being one of the largest law firms in the US.

While at Quinn Emanuel, which is a specialist litigation firm, Mr Lundberg was able to take referrals from other firms.

However, he said he missed being around partners who worked with clients on commercial matters.

As well as handling local matters before the courts, Mr Lundberg said a big part of his work was international arbitration.
