John Holland wins second stage of hospital deal

John Holland has been confirmed as the managing contractor for completion of the $1.2 billion New Children’s Hospital in Nedlands.  

The government announced in July last year that John Holland had won the first stage of works for the project, and Health Minister Kim Hames today confirmed the construction giant would finish the job.

The value of the works will be about $851 million, John Holland said in a statement.

John Holland's managing director Glenn Palin said the project took the combined value of the company's health care projects across Australia to almost $2 billion.

The design and construction of the project would provide employment for more than 3,000 people, he said.

Dr Hames said the design was almost finalised and construction on the 274-bed hospital was well under way.

“An enormous amount of work has gone into the design process for the new hospital to ensure it is one of the highest standards and meets the needs of children and teenagers of WA for generations to come,” Dr Hames said.

“More than 400 staff and the Youth Advisory Committee have taken part in the design of the hospital.”

“The design maximises views of neighbouring Kings Park and draws inspiration from WA’s native flora and fauna and other natural elements, including the Pinnacles, Bungle Bungles and salt plains.”

The hospital is due for completion in late 2015.
