Inner Perth Australia's most liveable urban area

Inner Perth’s natural environment is among the characteristics that contribute to it being the most liveable metropolitan region in Australia, according to a recent report by Ipsos Australia.

Central Adelaide, eastern Sydney and inner South Melbourne were ranked second, third and fourth respectively out of 42 urban areas in Australia.

Meanwhile, north-west Perth was also ranked highly at seventh.

The 'Life in Australia 2018' report asked more than 9,500 Australian citizens what they considered to be the top five characteristics that make a region a good place to live, and to then rate how well their local area performed between zero and 10 across 16 liveability attributes.

Feeling safe was most important for 67 per cent of respondents, followed by high-quality health services, affordable decent housing, reliable and efficient public transport and good job prospects.

Inner Perth scored the highest out of metropolitan Australia for health services and public transport, while north-west Perth and East Brisbane were equal top for affordable housing.   

West Brisbane scored the highest for safety while Sydney’s eastern suburbs were considered to have good job prospects.

Other attributes included in the survey were high quality education opportunities, access to natural environment and social cohesion.

Inner and north-west Perth’s highest-scoring attribute was access to natural environment at 8.3 and 7.8 per cent respectively.

Inner Perth had also scored highly for its shopping, leisure and dining while north-west Perth scored highly for viewing and participating in sports and recreation.
