CCI-BankWest Survey of Business Expectations

This survey of 360 WA companies has revealed tough trading conditions in the March quarter, with costs up and profitability down.

Business confidence fell on concerns about drought, war and weak stock markets.

WA confidence in the State outlook has reportedly fallen 25 per cent over the past year.

The availability of suitable labour has also been decreasing.

Forest and wood products

The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics’ Australian Forest and Wood Products Statistics report for the September and December quarters 2002 reveals Australian forest product imports rose over this period by 12 per cent.

However, the value of exports fell by one per cent.
