A 19-MEMBER trade delegation from India will visit Perth next week as part of a national tour.

WA International Trade Centre manager Ian Whitaker said India, which had been a little overshadowed by China’s surging economy in recent times, continued to offer WA and Australian businesses tremendous potential for two-way trade.

India was ranked as WA’s 24th largest trading partner in 2001, however it has since moved to number seven in terms of overall trade with this State.

Mr Whitaker said the incoming delegation was comprised of senior decision makers representing companies from a range of industries located throughout India.

One of the biggest deals struck between Indian and Western Australian interests is the $645 million Indian-backed Burrup Fertilisers, which recently commenced construction on WA’s north-west coast.
