PLANNING and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan has named Macmahon Contractors Pty Ltd as the preferred proponent for the extension of Reid Highway. The project involves the construction of a 2.6-kilometre, four-lane control access dual carriageway between West Swan Road and Great Northern Highway. A new road bridge with facilities for cyclists and pedestrians will be constructed over the Swan River, and the existing Whiteman Bridge on Middle Swan Road will be dismantled. The Macmahon Holdings Ltd subsidiary will now undergo negotiations with Main Roads before the design and construct contract is awarded. The completed project is expected to improve connections to areas of potential employment and residential growth in the middle and outer suburbs of Perth and accommodate for larger vehicles.
