Former Western Power chief Tony Iannello has joined newly-listed West Perth-based uranium explorer Energia Minerals as chairman.

"We are delighted to have secured someone of Tony's experience, ability and talent to join the Energia Minerals Board as chairman," managing director Keren Paterson said.

"He is well known and highly respected in the Australian business community."

Mr Iannello is currently chairman of HBF Health Fund, MG Kailis Group and Aviva Corporation. He is also a director of SP Ausnet, an energy network company in Victoria.

Prior to those roles, Mr Iannello was chief executive of Western Power and oversaw the break-up of the utility into four entities.

His appointment is effective immediately.

Uranium focused Energia listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in December after raising $7.5 million in its initial public offer. The company has a portfolio of tenements in Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory.
