While she does enjoy a good hard workout at the gym, Julie-anne Sprague also is partial to a bit of indulgence. So, is the organic focus this week part of a New Year’s resolution?

IT’S on again. After Little Creatures Brewery’s successful La Bohem spectacular first birthdayparty in September last year, they’re hosting another gala. This time it’s a creatures of the night theme, so don your best fairy, devil or troll suit (whichever is clean) and head to the brewery on Thursday January 31 from 7.30pm. The Little Creatures team’s aiming to provide entertainment and events that are a little unusual, and more than a little exciting.

Party-goers can roam through the action and graze on gourmet delights, which are included in the ticket price. Also included is all the magestic fun that comes hand in hand with this type of activity. Tickets for the evening are $44 including GST.

The Sandcastle Organic Cafe is now open in Fremantle. The owners are still waiting to source organic beer and wine (the grog without the unnatural chemicals and preservatives) but, until the bar is up and running, you can BYO beer and wine. The menu at the cafe covers a wide range of tastes, from beef fillet to sushi to gluten free cakes. The owners say they are just like any other cafe but aim to provide you with a chemical-free non-modified meal. The cafe is open seven days a week from 10am until late.

And if you want organic food delivered straight to your door, Orion Organics are the people to call. They have boxes (choose a $30 or $45 size) filled with fruit and vegetables sourced from certified organic farms in the State’s South West. Included in your box is a list of all the growers and their certification, so you know it is 100 per cent organic. And how do these growers avoid using pesticides? Orion Organics tells us they use specific flowering plants and herbs that are known for their insect repellent qualities. If you order a box of organic fruit and veg they will deliver it for free. Included is a mixture of seasonal fruit and vegetables, with 17 or so items included in the $30 box.

It’s official. Cantarella Brothers Pty Ltd (makers of Vittoria Coffee) are suing the Oriel Brasserie Cafe under the Trade Practices Act. The company is suing Oriel after it switched brands to Espresso Di Manfredi in July last year, seven months before its contract expired. A spokesperson for Oriel said the cafe would be defending the claim by asserting its right to serve whatever coffee it chooses.

It’s approaching open day for Bells Restaurant (Boat Torque’s latest hospitality instalment). The restaurant will be open for Skyshow with a la carte dining upstairs and an Aussie barbecue downstairs. The restaurant will open at the end of the month for a la carte dining, but who’ll be cooking and managing it is still up in the air, with Boat Torque unable to confirm who’ll be running this establishment. When Gusto learns the details we’ll keep you posted.

Leon Jung recently purchased Chianti on Colin and has begun cleaning up the kitchen. He has replaced the floorboards and the equipment at a cost of about $24,000. The work forced the restaurant to close for a few days. It reopened on Tuesday January 16th and, from today, you’ll notice a few other changes. Ray Morgan glassware will be on the tables and the new wine list will be redesigned and covered. Leon says he will be incorporating new wines to the list over time. Leon is spreading the word that Chianti is back and is offering a business lunch, starting today. If you haven’t been to Chianti on Colin in years, now is the time to step in and notice the changes.

Bubble Tea, originally from Taiwan, is the hot new thing in Perth’s beverage market. Extremely popular with Taiwanese and Singaporeans (mainly students), Bubble Tea is tantalising Aussie taste buds. Bubble Tea was launched in the mid1980s and is a blend of tea and other flavours that is both frothy and refreshing. What makes this drink unique is the addition of Sago. Sago has a gummy consistency, similar to gummy bears, and forms round, sticky, chewy balls that make the drink truly enjoyable. You can order Bubble Tea with or without sago, but if you’ve never tried bubble tea be sure to include the sago to understand why these drinks have become so popular.

Popular Bubble Tea outlet Utopia moved to larger premises on James Street, Northbridge, about six months ago and adds new flavours on a regular basis. At present they offer 25 different varieties. They will be opening a new store above their Bubble Tea outlet, called Utopia Tea House, on February 11. The new store will offer sit-down dining with 100 per cent vegetarian Taiwanese food and will serve Bubble Tea ... in glasses upstairs and the conventional takeaway cup downstairs.
