Gumala racks up $17m in Rio contracts

Indigenous contracting group Gumala Enterprises has announced $17 million worth of new contract wins with Rio Tinto in the Pilbara.

Gumala said today it had been awarded a $5 million contract at Rio’s Western Turner Brockman project, to provide miscellaneous earthworks at the development.

The contractor was also recently awarded a $12.2 million civil and building works package at the Yandi iron ore project.

The works at Yandi will include road maintenance, light vehicle workshop management, waste and traffic management services, buildings and facilities management and materials handling services.

“These two contracts, valued at $17 million, represent another significant achievement for our company during these challenging times in the resources sector,” Gumala general manager Daryl Smith said.

“We understand our clients’ drivers and believe Gumala is well positioned to deliver safe, cost effective and innovative solutions to our clients.”

Mr Smith said Gumala’s pursuit of a diversification strategy over the past 12 months held it in good stead to ride out the slowdown in the resources sector.
