THE Green Building Council of Australia is urging members of the Western Australian property industry to attend a special one-day training session in the use of the Green Star – Office Design rating tool to be held at the Parmelia Hilton on Thursday March 18.

The course is part of a national program of 13 training courses scheduled from January to June 2004, which will train more than 500 participants across Australia in the application of Green Star.

The Green Star – Office Design environmental rating tool is Australia’s first comprehensive, industry-owned, national, voluntary environmental rating tool for buildings.

The rating tool was released last year to help designers, architects, engineers and project managers design environmentally sustainable office buildings, and for planners to assess those designs.

Green Building Council of Australia member Lincolne Scott’s WA manager, Rob Mulcahy, said green buildings and environmentally sustainable development were here to stay and that the industry needed to be aware of what this meant and be trained to understand the processes involved.

During the first half of this year the Green Building Council aims to develop three other complementary tools for office buildings – one for tenancy fit-out design, another for office construction, and a tool for owners of existing office buildings.
