Govt makes Karratha land release

Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan today announced a boost in residential land for Karratha with the release of the first stage of LandCorp's Nickol West development by ballot early next year.

Ms MacTiernan said the ballot, which would be held on February 16, was good news for the region and urged prospective buyers to register their interest for the 88 single residential lots.

"The rapid expansion of the resources industry in the Pilbara has generated significant growth for Karratha and the release at Nickol West has been brought forward to help address the demand for quality residential land," she said.

The 46ha Nickol West development, located at the corner of Dampier and Balmoral roads, will ultimately provide more than 400 lots with a mixture of lot sizes and housing types.

The single residential lots included in the ballot range in size from 570sqm to 830sqm. A total of 10 cottage lots of approximately 430sqm overlooking a park in the estate will also be available. Prices for the lots range from $151,500 - $230,500.

The State Government is working at full pace to deliver land in Karratha, following the success of the Tambrey estate, which provided 177 lots to the market earlier this year.

Local MLA Fred Riebeling welcomed the release of additional land.

"This is the State Government's third land release in Karratha in less than 12 months,"
Mr Riebeling said.

"Importantly, this ballot will give specific preference to residents and employees of businesses in the town."

A number of lots at Nickol West will be allocated to key businesses in the region, in addition to the Dampier Port Authority, Department of Housing and Works and Government regional officers' Housing.

Civil works for stage one of Nickol West are under way on target for completion by April next year.

Ballot packs are now available with submissions closing on February 9.
