Good first season for Footygoss.com

FOOTBALL news web site Footygoss.com has announced a successful first season, following the end of on-the-field action last month.

A year after its launch at the 2002 WA Football League Grand Final, founder Russell Dower said the web site had attracted a lot of attention during its first full season.

Mr Dower said the website had logged more than 7,000 articles and recorded close to 33 million hits over the 12 months to September, with a steady increase in traffic to the site as the season progressed.

He expected the growth to continue.

“I would expect [traffic] to double in the next few months, if not more so,” Mr Downer said.

The key to the site was its effort to always be first with news on the national league, he said, adding that the end of the season didn’t mean there was no new football news to report.

The current player trading period, as well as the upcoming rookie and pre-season drafts, will ensure the football news keeps coming.

The web site forms the main focus of Mr Dower’s Wisdom Sports Media group, which provides coverage to the local WAFL, both through news and scores on the web site, and also radio coverage, which is supplied through airtime purchased from Information Radio.

Wisdom Sports Media also manages former Australian test cricketer Kerry O’Keefe in WA.
