LOCAL listed gold explorer Goldstar Resources has appointed former senior HSBC and Rio Tinto executive Jeff O’Leary as a new London-based director and announced a full non-executive directorship for Ian Pank-hurst, who has been acting as an alternate director since the company’s listing on the Australian Stock Exchange in 2003. Dr O’Leary, a geologist and geo-statistician was, until recently, metals and mining director of HSBC. Before joining the HSBC group in 1984, Dr O’Leary worked on many projects and mining operations worldwide, including senior positions at Rio Tinto, where he was chief mine geologist and geo-statistician and joint author of Rio Tinto’s mine valuation software. Based in New South Wales, Mr Pankhurst has operated his own mining consultancy since 1999, servicing a number of internationally-based clients, including Xstrata, BHP Billiton, Exxon and Mitsui.
