PATRICIA Lathlain has been awarded Goldfields Senior of the Year and will now join five other regional Western Australian winners to compete in the Bankwest Senior of the Year award later this month.

The 78-year old Ms Lathlain lives in Boulder and was awarded for providing support for vital community causes and innovative fundraising strategies, including the "bra tree", a concept to raise breast cancer awareness.

The other five finalists are Daisy Andrews of Fitzroy Crossing, Dr Patrick Cranley of Wembley, Jean Pigdon of Cue, Jane Pooley of Wyalkatchem and Hope Sharp of Albany.

Dr Cranley, who passed away on October 14, is still considered a finalist for the State awards. The State winner will be announced at a gala ceremony during Bankwest Seniors’ Week on October 31.
