GRD wins contract in $5.2bn iron project

GRD Minproc, a subsidiary of GRD Ltd, has secured the engineering contract for the $5.2 billion Sino iron ore project in Western Australia, currently being developed by Citic Pacific Mining.

GRD general manager corporate affairs Casey Cahill told WA Business News that work has already started work on the project, with teams working in Perth and in the Chinese city of Anshan.

Chinese-owned MCC Mining (Western Australia) Pty Ltd is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor and has engaged GRD to jointly undertake and manage services for the processing facility with Chinese company NETC.

The project is the largest magnetite project in WA.

GRD Limited (ASX:GRD) is pleased to announce that engineering and project delivery business GRD Minproc has been awarded an engineering contract for the Sino Iron Ore Project in Western Australia.

The $5.2 billion project at Cape Preston in the State's Pilbara is being developed by Citic Pacific Mining with equity participation by China Metallurgical Corporation Group (MCC). MCC Mining (Western Australia) Pty Ltd is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor and has engaged GRD Minproc to undertake and manage, in conjunction with Chinese design institute NETC, the engineering services for the processing facility.

"This is Western Australia's largest magnetite project and the work places GRD Minproc at the leading
edge of the development of the State's emerging magnetite sector," GRD Group Chief Executive Cliff Lawrenson said.

"GRD Minproc can utilise its skills to help deliver the large mills and concentrators required to produce concentrate and pellets from the magnetite ore."

Mr Lawrenson said delivering the project would involve GRD Minproc teams working in Perth and in the Chinese city of Anshan.

"Sino Iron is a signature Western Australian project for GRD Minproc and an important addition to our project pipeline that is spread across four continents.

"We look forward to making a high value contribution to the development of this exciting project," Mr Lawrenson said.
