Committee for Perth chief executive Marion Fulker will step down from her role early next year, after 16 years of service with the organisation.

Mrs Fulker joined the committee as the inaugural chief executive six months after it started.

During her tenure with the committee, Mrs Fulker oversaw the release of more than 150 research reports into arts and culture, economic diversity, transport and congestion, gender and equality, brand and reputation, and the future of work and skills shortage.

She also increased the membership from four founding members to 119 people representing 40 different sectors in the economy.

Mrs Fulker said it was the right moment to step down with a new strategic plan developed, a strong team in the committee and the completion of the organisation's latest research project.

“Leading the Committee for Perth has been the most rewarding role in my career,” she said.

“It has been a great privilege to shape important conversations about greater Perth’s future challenges and opportunities and bring to life the organisation’s vision for greater Perth to be a globally renowned region to live, work, invest, study and visit.

“I am incredibly proud of the evidence-based approach for which the committee is known, providing independent research on the issues that are important to the region’s future.

"A personal highlight has been the fact we were one of the first 50 organisations in the country to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan and have been a sustained advocate for a nationally significant Aboriginal Cultural Centre to be established in Perth.

“Since 2007, I have had the best job in Western Australia but now is the right time for me to pursue new opportunities leveraging my expertise in cities and infrastructure along with governance and strategy.”

Committee for Perth chair Tony Joyner said Mrs Fulker had done an extraordinary job and should be proud of her leadership.

"The board and I thank her for all she has done, and wish her every success in her future endeavours. She will always be part of the Committee for Perth family," he said.

The committee plans to engage a recruitment firm to help the board appoint a new chief executive.
