THE 3rd National Conference for Executive Secretaries and Office Professionals will take place on 29 and 30 July at the Duxton Hotel, Perth.

Presented in association with the Institute of Professional Secretaries and Administrators (WA), the conference is a joint initiative of UWA Extension and the Queensland University of Technology.

The program celebrates the vital role played by executive secretaries and office professionals in the successful administration of an organisation, while acknowledging the changing nature of such roles in the face of new leadership styles and emerging technologies.

The aim of the conference is also to encourage further professional and personal development through a full two day program of workshops and presentations.

Topics covered range from project and people management and information technology to media skills and financial planning.

Keynote speakers include Federal Member for Curtin Julie Bishop, BankWest CEO and managing director Terry Budge and Lee Hecht Harrison human resource expert Sally Zanetic.

Comedian Jon Doust will teach delegates How to Laugh Your Way out of a Paper Bag for sticky situations which require more than tact and diplomacy.

A Liz Davenport fashion show will be held during a morning tea on 29 July and a cocktail reception on that evening will provide networking opportunities.

UWA Extension course co-ordinator Liz Tilly said the conference was a good example of support staff taking responsibility for their career development.

“Today’s support staff are taking on tasks which are traditionally not in their realm of duties, so they are experiencing increased responsibility and a need to sharpen up other skills,” Ms Tilly said.
